Roswell has an opportunity to build a unique park in the heart of our city that will build on the vibrancy that local businesses, entrepreneurs and caring citizens have cultivated over the past 20 years. Canton Street’s success was kick-started by an investment from the city in the mid ‘90’s to add sidewalks and lighting prior to the Olympics. We all know how that has turned out. It’s time to expand on that success and spread the vitality down Atlanta Street.
The Roswell City Green will do just that.
The Roswell City Green will be an active park and outdoor event space in the heart of our city hosting activities year round with programming that will complement and extend the already vibrant Canton Street scene. It was initially conceptualized in 2012 and has been through several years of revisions, planning and designing. It is a project that is ready to go. It will enhance our war memorials, encourage responsible redevelopment, provide easy access to 400 free parking spots and foster and even more connected and united Roswell. Here are just some reasons to support the City Green
City Green Will Honor Our Veterans
Our veterans deserve to be honored and revered. The City Green will give their monuments the prominence, visibility and respect they deserve. Currently, the memorials are tucked away behind City Hall. The City Green plan moves them to the sides of a new green where they will face each other and be visible to thousands more people every day.
City Green Will Grow Our Local Economy
The City Green is an economically affordable keystone project that will encourage responsible redevelopment along Atlanta Street and in long neglected areas of our downtown. This project, similar to some in our neighboring cities, has the potential to open up opportunities for redevelopment of blighted properties and for the launching of local businesses while sending an unmistakable signal that Roswell is not resting on its laurels. Investment in downtown parks increases property values, improves municipal revenue, retains and attracts residents and builds on the live, work, play environment that drives a local economy.
City Green Will Connect Everyone to Our Downtown
Downtown is the one part of every city that belongs to everyone. Ours is no different. We all cherish Canton Street and our historic homes. People from all over the city are passionate about what type of development happens in downtown. The City Green will give us a modern space to host outdoor events events and activities that will build on the success of prior investments in Canton Street and provide an exciting and flexible place that will connect Roswellians of all ages to our city's amazing culture and heritage.
In time, and with your support, our City Green will become the social, civic and economic heart of Roswell.
